What year did you graduate from Saint Mary Academy: 2017
What are you doing now?
I am currently a graduate student in speech-language pathology at Purdue University. I also work as the clinical and research assistant for the Purdue Literacy Education and Practice Project (LEaPP).
How did Saint Mary Academy help prepare you for where you are today?
The faculty, staff, and friends that I made at Saint Mary Academy were formative influences in my life, providing me with a strong faith foundation and a deep love of learning. At SMA, the core classes, electives, and extracurricular opportunities gave me the space to explore my varied interests. I also began developing the skill of critical thinking, learning how to respond to challenges with an open and curious mind. As a graduate clinician in speech-language pathology, I use these skills daily. I am committed to being a lifelong learner! I am incredibly grateful that Saint Mary Academy placed a focus on personal growth, flexible learning, and serving others. I know the lessons I learned at SMA have helped prepare me for all the adventures to come.
What accomplishment(s) in your life are you most proud of?
I am proud of the leadership skills I have developed over the course of my educational journey. Some of my most rewarding experiences come from my time as the president of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association at Murray State University. While serving this organization, I initiated a mentoring program in the Communication Disorders Department, organized a Parkinson's Awareness event, and worked with the officer team to raise money for Special Olympics KY and Lexington Elevating Abilities Foundation. I am proud that I used my voice creatively and confidently to create positive change on the campus and in the community.
